News:
UZ Gent performed its 2,000th liver transplant, establishing a national record for liver transplants in adults. Cardiologists at the institution treated the first European patients with a new generation of wireless pacemaker. These procedures mark the start of a large-scale clinical study investigating if the device supports natural heart function better than existing wireless pacemakers. Additionally, UZ Gent and KU Leuven developed a new technique to identify perpetrators of sexual violence in cases where it was previously impossible. Through SpermFACS, they can isolate sperm cells from biological evidence with greater sensitivity even when very few traces are present.
